We at Shoreview Pediatrics are deeply saddened by the death of George Floyd, and the many other victims of systemic racism and injustice. Tragedies like this can lead to feelings of helplessness, but pediatricians have an important role to play in addressing racial inequality. We are committed to this. In 2019 the American Academy of Pediatrics released a policy statement identifying racism as a social determinant of health – one that has a profound effect on the health status of children, adolescents, emerging adults, and their families. At Shoreview Pediatrics we believe that human dignity and empathy are of the greatest importance, and will always strive to provide culturally sensitive, child and family-centered care.
