As pediatricians we are often asked if certain vaccines are necessary and safe. One that has more recently come into question is the HPV vaccine. Through ongoing and thorough studies into vaccine safety by the FDA and CDC via both individual-reporting of adverse effects and clinical research (after extensive research to get these vaccines on the market in the first place), all data to date points to “YES”.
Below you will find a statement by the AAP on the HPV vaccine, as well as up-to-date safety information from the CDC. As always, ask us questions! We appreciate the thoughtful participation in patient care and opening up this dialogue with our patients and their families. And remember, at the end of the day we  all have the same goal (parents and physicians alike): to see this generation grow into happy and healthy adults and do BIG things in the future.
